Lowestoft, U.K. - The Gull Wing Bridge project has reached a significant milestone as the final segment is installed.

The last segment of the Gull Wing Bridge, the main bascule span, has been successfully installed. This segment, measuring 39.5 meters in length, 22 meters in width, and 35 meters in height,required precise planning and execution. It weighs approximately 1120 tonnes, consisting of 750 tonnes of permanent structural steelwork and 370 tonnes of temporary ballast for stability during installation. Once completed, the Gull Wing Bridge will stand as the largest rolling bascule bridge in the world lifted using hydraulic cylinders.

As the Gull Wing Bridge nears completion, Lowestoft anticipates the positive impacts it will bring. Improved traffic flow and enhanced connectivity will benefit residents and businesses alike. As the bridge will sit 12 meters clear of the highest tide, smooth marine traffic flow is also ensured. The bridge's impressive design and technical specifications underscore its importance as a landmark infrastructure project.
