Victor Buyck is impressing the UK with the Northern Spire

Sunderland, United Kingdom - As the finishing works on the Northern Spire –the official name of the bridge formerly known “New Wear Crossing”- are ongoing and the bridge has shown its final and majestic shape to the public, it continues to impress people, insiders as well as outsiders. This week the project team, of which Victor Buyck is a major key partner, has been honored with two major tokens of appreciation.

At the start of the week it was announced that the Northern Spire has been nominated for a Considerate Constructors Scheme 2018 National Site Award. These prestigious awards are only presented to the highest performing sites in the UK. More news later this year at the official award ceremony...

Additionally, the project has been honoured by a Royal Visit on Wednesday by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince William and Princess Kate visited the construction site as a part of their North East Visit. First they were introduced to the project in the site compound, and subsequently they officially crossed the bridge deck by car, followed by a meet and greet with some of the involved and showing their great appreciation for the design and construction of this marvelous piece of steel bridge engineering and construction.

These signs of appreciations reflect the benchmark Victor Buyck is setting for the steel construction industry and results from the combined efforts by all involved Victor Buyck employees, as well in Victor Buyck’s fabrication yards in Eeklo and Ghent, as by the site team.

Congratulations to the entire team! The next milestone is the official opening of the bridge later this spring.
