Spine truss assembled of Luton DART’s Gateway Bridge

Luton, United Kingdom - The site team of Victor Buyck has completed the erection of the truss on the new Gateway Bridge in Luton, UK. In previous phases, the steel structure of the deck was welded and the concrete deck slab was poured. The truss consists of 10 vertical struts, 5 diagonal tubes and 4 top chord parts. The asymmetric shape of the truss symbolizes a plane taking off.

The bridge is part of the DART (Direct Air-Rail Transit) project. London Luton Airport Limited (LLAL) is building the link to support seamless journeys from St. Pancras to the UK’s fifth largest airport in just 30 minutes and to help reduce the number of passengers travelling to and from the airport by private cars. The journey on the DART itself is estimated to take as little as four minutes.

Next phases include welding and painting the truss and the installation of the bridge above the road. Victor Buyck is building the bridge for the principal contractor VolkerFitzpatrick-Kier jv.
