Top arches installed at 60-70 St. Mary Axe

Victor Buyck Steel Construction 60-70 St. Mary Axe

London, United Kingdom - On the 30th of January 2018 our erectors installed the first 3 arches on the 70 St Mary Axe in the City of London. These arches are literally the closing pieces of this new iconic building, which is also nick-named the Can of Ham.

Victor Buyck fabricated the arches in its workshop in Eeklo. Due to the tight tolerances and the architectural exposure we had to make them out of plates, welded together. A thorough check of the geometry before and after galvanization was carried out prior to sending the pieces to site using special transport.

In the coming weeks our crew will install the last pieces at roof level. This is a complex operation as we have to coordinate with our client, Mace, to allow the installation of plant on the limited available space prior to closing the roof.

At the lower levels our painters continue to touch up the intumescent paint, which we plan to complete in about a month.
