Description

Bath Quays Bridge provides a new crossing point over the River Avon for pedestrians and cyclists. An alternative crossing point to Midland Bridge and Churchill Bridge to the west and east respectively.

The bridge connects the development sites of Bath Quays North and South and enhances the improved connectivity between the riverside and Bath city centre. The bridge design was selected via an international design competition, commissioned by B&NES Council in 2015. The Paris based engineering and architectural consultancy Marc Mimram's 'Between History and Modernity' was chosen as the winning design.

The bridge consists of two spans of 34,5m and 25,5m. The main girders are welded plates of a thickness up to 100mm. Victor Buyck fabricated the bridge and central pier in the workshop in Eeklo and started the site activities for the superstructure on site in March 2020. The bridge was installed over the river Avon during a river closure in November 2020.
