Description
The project comprises the construction of a bicycle and pedestrian connection on the route of the FR0 bicycle highway. To realise this connection in a safe way, a 500m long bicycle and pedestrian bridge has been chosen. Both the bridge, the pillars and the stairs to leave the bridge between the abutments are made of steel.
The connection will be realised at the junction of the Leopold III lane with the cycling highway and should connect the Harenweg in Zaventem with the Sint-Stevens-Woluwestraat in Machelen.
Victor Buyck is in charge of the study and the construction of the bridge (incl. pillars and stairs).
In order to limit the impact on road traffic, the bridge decks will be transported across the water to Grimbergen. This means that only the last few kilometres to the construction site have to be travelled by truck.
