Description

Two new bridges will replace the existing movable bridge in Ghent and thus improve access to the north of Ghent.

Each bridge consists of 3 elements, of which 2 fixed parts and 1 central movable part. The movable part is a bascule bridge that provides a free passage of 20m for ships.

The bridge is 58m long in total, of which the road surface of the central movable part takes up about 25m. The bridges design consists of box-shaped main girders, I-shaped cross girders and an orthotropic deck.

All bridge components are manufactured in their entirety in the Wondelgem workshop and then transported to Ghent. The first bridge will be assembled in the summer of 2023, the second one will follow in the autumn of 2024.
